Course Content-

1. Evaluation of fight and care under fight

2. Tactical field care

-evaluation of patient

-rapid interventions

-TQ use and removal, packing difficult wounds, fluid use, chest/head/abdomen management

-managing non- trauma issues in combat

3. Evacuation care and planning, movement of patients

4. Introduction to prolonged field care concepts


The Instructor-

Mike Swartz, PA-C is a 31 year Army Veteran, enlisted and officer in conventional infantry, medical, and special forces units. His multiple deployments include the Middle East, Central America, Eastern Europe, SE Asia, Bangladesh and North America. He holds degrees in Nursing, Medicine, and Counterinsurgency, and pioneered multiple established techniques in austere medicine. He worked as a specialist in orthopedic diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation since graduating from the top ranked University of Nebraska interservice physician assistant program in 2000. He performed additional surgical assistant training at the Carle Clinic in Illinois, a regional trauma center. Prior to PA school, Mike worked as a cardiovascular ICU Registered Nurse at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho. He has also received additional training in ATLS, ACLS, PALS, CPR instructor, and Wilderness ALS.
